Ahh, Wednesday. Feels like Monday.

Because for Jason's Books and Coffee, it rather is Monday.

See, we've reopened today after closing in late June for inventory prep and sundry other enhancements. Here's what you need to know:

  • Our hours have been optimized. We're now open Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. We're open Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We're closed on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday — and whenever Wyoming Public Schools hunkers down for the weather or there's a major overlapping civil holiday or Catholic holy day. We will also continue having annual summer and winter vacations where we close the store for a fortnight for rejuvenation and maintenance. Regardless, our events calendar will remain updated with our hours.
  • Our phone system has been enhanced. Calling the bookstore leads to a more sophisticated call attendant (yes, during business hours you can still ring through) and you can now text the store at the same number: 616-342-4002.
  • Our event schedule has tweaked. Our long-established book club meets the first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. (This month, it's Slaughterhouse Five.) Craft night is every third Wednesday at 6 p.m., and open writing nights are the second, fourth, and fifth Wednesdays at 6 p.m. On Fridays, we now offer open slots for people to host in-store readings and signings. In 2027, one Friday each month will yield to a new Great Books-inspired reading group.
  • Our inventory tool has been updated. The store has now migrated to Booktrakker, a comprehensive point-of-sale and inventory system for bookstores. BT supports multichannel listings (so, hello eBay and Biblio, &c.) and customer profiling. We're still working through sorting and labeling and pricing, though. That process will take many more months to complete.
  • We now support automagical wish lists. Booktrakker includes a wishlisting module, so we can take book information — including partial data — to create specialized lists. When we receive a book on someone's wishlist, we will be alerted so we can let you know it's available.
  • We are moving to a store-credit system for used books. We no longer offer a cash-for-books program (that system ended in January) but we now buy books back at a percentage of what we'd sell it for, and credit your account for that value.
  • We now offer a silent writing window. It's on Thursdays, in the evening. Technically, the bookstore is closed but Jason wants to write more, so there it is. Reach out to the store for more information. It'll be held in our conference room, and there are cats there, so heads-up if you're allergic to a feline overlord.
