Join us on Friday, October 16, from 6p to 8p for the launch of local author Troy Wymer’s latest novel, Syrenthian Redemption.

Syrenthian Redemption is an epic space opera: Sierra is a Galactic EMT, a vocalist, and an advocate for interspecies relationships. She learns the tragic history of the Humolfans and is persuaded to advocate for their repatriation back into galactic society. Through a series of dramatic events, Sierra falls in love.

Troy D. Wymer is a science fiction space opera novelist from Michigan. He started writing in 1984, but it wasn't until 2016 that he formed the WymerNovels imprint and began to publish novels. Troy enjoys reading, writing, and listening to various subgenres of metal music.

I hope you’re enjoying autumn!

  • This is your friendly reminder that the bookstore is closed today and tomorrow (Friday Oct. 9 & Saturday Oct. 10) — Jason and Cade have a long-planned out-of-state trip on the docket.
  • You’re still welcome to drop in to Thursday Night Silent Writing! Yesterday we welcomed five writers around the conference-room table, and both cats graced us with their presence. If you’re new, just come in the building and head to the back-office area. The bookstore is closed at that time, but I’m often running the karate class up front so it’ll be easy to get your bearings if you need help.
  • Things heat up at the bookstore in November, with “That November Thing” sponsored by the West Michigan Author Alliance on the way. More details to come, but hold Saturday, Nov. 21, on your calendar for an all-day potluck and writing frenzy.
  • Many of you know that I currently serve as president of the Midwest Independent Publishers Association. Check out our newest blog post for strategic updates from the board of directors plus an update about this year’s Midwest Book Awards.
  • The classics/liberal-arts-and-sciences reading club launches in January. The 2027 theme is “the scaffolding of antiquity” and readings cover the period from roughly the end of the Bronze Age through Socrates, and covers the cultures of Zhou China, Vedic India, Egypt, Israel, and Persia, with special attention to the transition of Greece from the Homeric to the Classical eras. Drop us an email if you’d like to join the mailing list for additional information.
I am “writing” silently with Theon d’Cat.

We’re sliding into the political silly season. This is your friendly reminder that Jason’s Books and Coffee is neutral ground to learn new things and discuss important ideas. We are neither a conservative nor a progressive bookstore; we do not adorn our windows with candidate signs or check your voter-registration card before welcoming you in. We’re just a bookstore where all are welcome regardless of partisan affiliation.

Stay safe, warm, sane, and well-read, my friends!
