Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Murphy d'Cat – my 17-year-old feline shadow – crossed the rainbow bridge at the emergency hospital. He had developed an abdominal tumor that was fundamentally untreatable.

His death hit me hard. Murph was my little buddy, a very vocal cat with a big personality and a lot of affection.

This morning, his sister – his bonded littermate, Fiona – really started to notice his absence. Pacing, panic meows, the works.

I cannot – I will not – leave her alone to be an elderly senior cat navigating solitude for the first time in her life.

As such, we are closed until Monday.
