This year, we're getting more involved in the "events" side of the literary retail space. Yay! That means --
- We're opening from 9a to 9p on Saturday, April 25, for Independent Bookstore Day. We'll offer free cookies and coffee all day long, and have a few special surprises lined up. Speaking of which, if you're an author who'd love to do a signing that day, let us know. 😸
- We will be part of the 2026 MI Book Hop. This month-long activity, which runs from Indie Bookstore Day until Memorial Day, gives customers of independent bookstores chances to earn prizes by completing BINGO cards. Plus, you support literary third spaces in your community. What could be better?
Our in-store event schedule is filling up, too. Consider joining us for any of the following activities. No cost or RSVP – just drag yourself across the threshold and enjoy.
- Mon., February 2 – Community Writing. Runs from 6p to 8p, and isn't actually at the bookstore. We meet in the upper level of Panera Bread in Grandville (Kenowa Ave.). Join us, eat dinner, and let the words flow forth.
- Wed., February 4 – Book Club. This month's selection is Modern Man in Search of a Soul by Carl Jung. Normally, book club meets at 6p at the bookstore but several regular attendees have special events; we may relocate this one club meeting to earlier in the day, at Meijer Gardens. Maybe. If you're interested in joining, reach out to confirm February plans.
- Wed., Feb. 11 – Community Writing. Drop in anytime between 5p and 8p to write in peace. Bring something to work on; this is solo writing in community.
- Mon., Feb. 16 – Community Writing at Panera, 6p to 8p.
- Wed., Feb. 18 – Closed for Ash Wednesday.
- Wed., Feb 25 – Craft and Social Night. Runs from 5p to 8p. Bring a craft (writing, drawing, leatherworking, knitting, whatever) and enjoy friendly conversation and your favorite hobby.
From a scheduling standpoint, apart from weather-related disruptions, our normal schedule holds for February, with two exceptions. First, we're closed on Wednesday, February 16, in observance of Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Second, our Saturday hours are canceled on February 28 to accommodate a black-belt test for the dojo.
It's cold outside and many feel frozen both physically and emotionally. Remember, a good book warms the soul. Reading helps us find meaning in a world that sometimes feels barren and cold. So curl up with a good book, a cat, a fuzzy blanket, and your favorite beverage and find solace in worlds or ideas that others have lovingly curated, just for you.
